From its beginning, RealNetworks has been committed to the common good. Demonstrating our corporate citizenship in measurable and meaningful ways continues to be a company value.
When RealNetworks went public in 1997, the company committed to donating five percent of its annual profits to charity upon attaining sustained profitability.
Even today, a commitment like this is rare — for a start-up, it was unparalleled.
To date, this philanthropic set-aside totals approximately $28 million. (This includes corporate contributions and foundation grant making only. Product donations are above and beyond this figure.)
RealNetworks Foundation
Since 2000, the RealNetworks Foundation has been the primary driver behind Real's philanthropic initiatives. In addition to its competitive grant-making program, the Foundation matches donations made by Real employees to qualified nonprofits (up to $10,000 per employee, per year). The Foundation also makes honorary grants to nonprofits in recognition of employees who have worked for the Company for five years.
