REALNETWORKS TO EXPAND REACH OF THE HELIX PLATFORM THROUGH INTEGRATION OF OMA DRM 2.0

Integration with Helix DRM and Helix DNA Client enables Mobile Device Manufacturers to Support Playback of Secure Content

Company Also Joins Content Management License Administrator to Accelerate Delivery of Secure Content via Mobile Networks

Seattle, WA — February 2nd, 2004 — RealNetworks®, Inc. (NASDAQ: RNWK) today announced it plans to integrate the new Open Mobile Alliance DRM 2.0 specifications into the Helix™ DRM platform and RealPlayer®. Integration of OMA DRM 2.0 will enable content owners to use a standards based OMA DRM system to deliver content securely to the PC, portable music players, and mobile devices, and will enable device manufacturers using the Helix DNA Client to easily implement OMA DRM 2.0 on their devices. RealNetworks also announced it is a founding member of the Content Management License Administrator (CMLA), a licensing and compliance framework for OMA DRM 2.0 announced today by leading mobile technology, mobile service providers, and content owners.

"Major media companies count on Helix DRM to enable new commerce opportunities while protecting their content assets," said Nagesh Pabbisetty, Vice President, RealNetworks. "Adding support for OMA DRM 2.0 into Helix DRM will enable customers to use a single infrastructure to reach PCs, portable devices and mobile handsets. We believe the open nature of OMA DRM 2.0 combined with a commercially available platform like Helix DRM will accelerate growth of the mobile media market."

Through its integration with the widely distributed RealOne™ Player and RealPlayer products, Helix DRM is already available on millions of PCs worldwide as well as on mobile devices from companies using the Helix DNA client, such as PalmOne. Integration of OMA DRM 2.0 with the Helix DNA Client will enable content owners to deliver their content securely to mobile handsets using industry standard protocols as well. The Helix DNA client is already being used by leading mobile handset platform providers including ACCESS, Ericsson Mobile Platforms, Motorola and Openwave. Additionally, content owners wishing to use the Helix platform for server side delivery will be able to reach OMA DRM 2.0 compliant devices.

Part of the open Helix media delivery platform, Helix DRM is a leading multi-format DRM used by digital music and Internet movie services. Helix DRM protects major Internet formats including RealAudio® and RealVideo® as well as important international standards such as the 3GPP codecs and AAC audio format. More information about Helix DRM is available at http://www.realnetworks.com/products/drm/index.html.

OMA was formed in June 2002 by nearly 200 companies including the world’s leading mobile operators, device and network suppliers, information technology companies and content and service providers to establish standards for interoperable products and services on mobile networks. The Content Management License Administrator (CMLA) was formed to address necessary business concerns and enable the rapid delivery of high-quality digital content to mobile handsets and other devices that deploy the OMA Digital Rights Management version 2.0 specification.
