REALNETWORKS ANNOUNCES MORE THAN 70 MOBILE OPERATOR CUSTOMERS FOR ITS HELIX UNIVERSAL MOBILE PLATFORM

Joint Offerings with Leading Handset and Infrastructure Vendors Cement RealNetworks' Role as Leader in Mobile Media Technology

GSMWorld Congress, Cannes, FR. 15th February 2005 — RealNetworks®, Inc. (Nasdaq: RNWK), Today announced that more than 70 mobile operators in over 40 countries have chosen its Helix™ Universal Mobile platform for delivering digital audio and video to 2.5G and 3G networks. RealNetworks also announced:
- An expanded relationship with Siemens Communications Group to enable end-to-end mobile media solutions, adding to existing relationships with industry leaders Ericsson and Nokia Networks, and
- An expanded relationship with Nokia that enables Nokia to include the RealPlayer on more Nokia handsets, strengthening a handset offering from Real in which four of the top six handset manufacturers ship models that include RealPlayer.

"As operators deploy advanced mobile data networks we are seeing growing progress towards mass-market consumer adoption of multimedia," said Lee Joseph, general manager, Mobile Business Unit, RealNetworks. "RealNetworks is uniquely positioned to benefit from this move through its strong relationships with operators, handset manufacturers and content providers."

According to Phillip Taylor of Strategy Analytics, "Sales in video platforms picked up in 2003 and 2004 as carriers looked beyond MMS and responded to the heavily promoted video offerings of Greenfield 3G operations". Further, "Strategy Analytics estimates that in 2009, over 182 million users will use mobile video content services worldwide, generating revenues of just over $6.64billion. We anticipate a relatively buoyant sales environment in 2005, with many carriers in Europe, Asia and North America launching commercial video content services over both 2.5G and 3G networks. RealNetworks, with its Helix Universal Mobile platform, remains in a strong position to consolidate its lead in the mobile audio and video solution market."

The mobile operators' broad and far-reaching deployment of Helix Universal Mobile platform is the result of its multi-format, multi-platform architecture that enables operators to quickly and efficiently integrate with a range of operator networks. By integrating the industry-leading Helix Universal Mobile platform, mobile operators can manage and stream media traffic across their 2.5 and 3G networks, to deliver value-added content such as news, sports and entertainment in RealAudio® and RealVideo®, as well as in 3GPP—compliant formats. The Helix Universal Mobile platform is comprised of the Helix Universal Server — Mobile, the Helix Universal Gateway — Mobile, and the Helix Service Delivery Suite (SDS).
