HONG KONG CSL DEPLOYS REALNETWORKS' HELIX UNIVERSAL MOBILE PLATFORM TO ENABLE MOBILE VIDEO SERVICES ACROSS MULTI-SPEED DATA NETWORKS

Hong Kong, China, 29 March, 2005 — Signaling the arrival of a new era of consumer mobile video services, Hong Kong CSL, (CSL), and RealNetworks®, Inc. (Nasdaq: RNWK), today announced availability of Asia's first mobile media service enabling customers to watch On Demand video while transparently switching between CSL’s GPRS (2.5G), EDGE (2.75G) and new UMTS (3G) data networks.

Following the lead of CSL, mobile operators worldwide are deploying the Helix Universal Mobile platform to help bridge the speed gaps between 3G, Edge and GPRS data networks. Real-time video adaptation between networks of varying speeds ensures mobile customers enjoy a constant media experience even while transitioning in a multi-rate network environment.

"With Real’s Helix mobile platform, operators have a tremendous opportunity to extract continued value from existing networks while familiarizing customers on new high-speed networks and attracting new customers looking for compelling content services such as CSL’s ‘Video World’ service," said Tom Freed, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, RealNetworks, Inc.

Customers with CSL’s ‘Video World’ service can today access a range of news, finance, sports, drama, music and entertainment video clips in Chinese and English from world-class program channels. Additionally, CSL ‘Video World’ customers can also tune into a new leisure guide, as well as funny video, frontline and cartoon channels.

"It was important for CSL to be able to continue leveraging existing networks while deploying our new 3G network," said Dr. Tony Seeto, Director of Business Development, CSL. "Real’s Helix mobile platform provided CSL with the multi-format and interoperable media framework to launch our comprehensive ‘Video World’ service on our 3G network, while automatically adapting that same video programming to serve customers on our GPRS and EDGE networks."

Real's Helix Universal Mobile platform supports multi-rate streaming of On Demand content using either standards-based or Real’s audio and video formats. CSL launched Asia’s first multi-rate adaptable video streaming service using standards-based multimedia content, and offers the service on handsets such as the Nokia 6260, 6630, 6670 and 7610 handsets, as well as the Motorola A780. These handsets ship with the standards-compliant RealPlayer Mobile.
