RealNetworks Wins Emmy Award for Pioneering Internet Streaming Technology

SEATTLE — January 8, 2007  —  Tonight RealNetworks®, Inc. (NASDAQ: RNWK), the global leader in digital media delivery, was bestowed an acclaimed Technology & Engineering Emmy Award® by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for Streaming Media Architectures and Components.

The Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards were presented at the Venetian in Las Vegas during the opening evening of the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).  Peter Price, president and CEO of the National Television Academy, presided over the ceremony, which was attended by more than 450 industry leaders.

In April 1995, Real pioneered streaming technology and delivered the first real time streaming Internet broadcast with the RealAudio® Player. Real followed up on this innovation with the introduction of RealVideo® in 1997 and a number of subsequent innovations. Real has been granted a series of patents for these revolutionary technologies.

"Before RealAudio, the World Wide Web was silent," said Rob Glaser, chairman and CEO of RealNetworks. "Beginning in 1995, Real revolutionized the web by delivering real-time streaming audio, then music, and then video. On behalf or Real's worldwide team, I'd like to express our gratitude to the members of the National Television Academy for recognizing our accomplishments and tradition of innovation."

The Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards honor achievements in two areas: Science, Engineering & Technology for Broadcast Television, which includes broadcast, cable and satellite distribution, and secondly, Science, Engineering and Technology for Broadband and Personal Television, encompassing interactive television, gaming technology, and for the first time, the Internet, cell phones, private networks, and personal media players.

Real continues to innovate and enrich the world of digital media and entertainment. Rhapsody, the #1 digital music subscription service, provides songs to subscribers using PCs, MP3 players and home entertainment systems. Real is also one of the largest publishers, distributors and developers of casual games. And RealPlayer, where it all began, is one of the most downloaded pieces of software in the world.
