RealSystem Extensions for Dreamweaver 4, making it easier to integrate streaming media into your Web page layout/design. The RealSystem object panel allows you to compose streaming media content using one or more RealSystem media types and to simply add these to your Web page. Step-by-step dialogs allow content authors to browse to (local) media or enter a URL to access content available over the Internet. Resulting RealSystem metafiles (.rpm) are generated automatically, and existing SMIL presentations can also be easily added to Web pages.

Commonly used RealPlayer controls can be placed directly/anywhere in the Web page. Playback controls, status panels, and volume sliders can be added as a convenience to Web page visitors. Resulting pages are compatible with both Netscape 4.0 and Internet Explorer 4.0 (or later).

RealAudio, RealVideo, SMIL content can be placed anywhere in the Web page. Dreamweaver objects make it simple to insert multimedia into Web pages; RealSystem delivers synchronized playback of streaming media.

INSTALLATION
- Before using the RealSystem Extensions for Dreamweaver 4, make sure you have downloaded and installed RealPlayer 8 successfully. Download RealPlayer 8 from: http://www.real.com/player/index.html
- Before installing the RealSystem Extensions for Dreamweaver 4, make certain you are running Dreamweaver 4 or higher. Download RealSystem Extensions to your system from: http://www.macromedia.com/exchange/dreamweaver/
- Double click on RealNetworks.mxp to install.
- Open Dreamweaver. Select Window > Objects to access the Objects Palette.
- Use the menu at the top of the Objects palette to select the set of RealMedia Objects.

USING REALSYSTEM DREAMWEAVER 4 OBJECTS

Insert RealVideo—Insert local or network RealVideo file. Metafile (.rpm) is created or updated automatically in the same directory as the HTML document.

Insert RealAudio—Insert local or network RealAudio file. Metafile (.rpm) is created or updated automatically in the same directory as the HTML document.

Insert SMIL—Insert local or network SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) file. Metafile (.rpm) is created or updated automatically in the same directory as the HTML document.

Insert RealMedia Control—Inserts a controller for your RealMedia.

- Inspectors

This inspector is used for editing the properties of RealVideo, RealAudio, and SMIL presentations. Use the text field below the word "RealMedia" to give your presentation a name to use when scripting control of the presentation.

W and H — Set the size of your display window in pixel values.

Src — Type or browse the path to the source RealAudio, RealVideo, or SMIL file. If you use a local source, you will need to update the contents of your metafile (or HTML file if you are not using a metafile) to a full path to serve your presentation off a RealServer or a web server. Metafiles can be easily edited in any text editor.

Auto-Start — If checked, the presentation will begin to play as soon as the web page is loaded. Otherwise, the presentation waits until told to play via a control or script.

Hide Logo — Masks the RealNetworks logo while the presentation is buffering.

Metafile — If checked, a metafile (.rpm) is automatically created in the same folder as your HTML document. HTML documents should always link to a metafile, which points to the RealMedia file. Only turn off this option if your sources is a pre-existing or dynamically generated metafile. The metafile should reside on a web server, and contains a full path to the RealMedia file on either your RealServer or web server.

Allow JavaScript Control — Allows the RealPlayer to be controlled via JavaScript. This option is not necessary for using the RealMedia Controls. Unchecking this control will speed the loading time on Netscape browsers.

- RealMedia Control

This inspector is used for editing the properties of RealMedia controls. Use the text field below the word "RealMedia" to give your control a name to use for scripting.

- A Windows-compatible sound card (not required for instillation but required to hear audio)

- 16-bit (thousands) color display resolution or higher recommended see your Display settings in your Windows control panel)

KNOWN ISSUES
Saving HTML: HTML documents must be saved before RealMedia objects can be inserted.

Correct RealServer Basepath: If you use a metafile, you will need to update the file to work off a server. Edit the metafile (.rpm) to contain the full URL for your

Moving HTML: Local paths are relative to the location of the HTML file. The paths to the media are not updated if the HTML and metafiles are moved

MANUALLY CONFIGURING YOUR BROWSER
After you upgrade your browser, you may lose the configuration information for the RealPlayer program. The easiest way to reconfigure your browser is to reinstall RealPlayer. Alternatively, you can manually configure your browser:
